Linda DeLaney | Fun Facts About Linda
Creative. Detail-oriented. Tenacious.
As far back as Linda can remember she was intrigued by graphic design and advertising. She was completely fascinated by the compositions, typefaces and animations of the opening sequences for such TV shows as “The Wild Wild West” and “Bewitched.” Simplistic corporate logos such as Bell Telephone, CBS and Exxon always caught her eye. Magazine covers such as “Rolling Stone” and “Seventeen” were of particular interest -- she totally loved how an outlined photo could cover up much of the masthead, yet it was still recognizable! What makes that happen? Darren from “Bewitched,” the guys in “30 Something”… why were so many TV characters ad executives?
High school introduced Linda to the idea of graphic design as an occupation. Following the lead of John Bender, she enrolled in shop. Yes, she took shop. Her two-year stint in Mrs. Beachley’s Communication Arts class armed her with enough information about photography, layout, design, color, typesetting and offset printing to convince her to pursue graphic design for profit and pleasure.
Next stop: The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Linda thoroughly embraced the environment and energy of complete immersion in art and graphic design studies. Quickly learning that she was not illustrator material she concentrated efforts on her strengths of conceptualizing, composition, layout and font usage.
School alone would not propel her career so Linda eagerly searched for an internship. The stars aligned and Linda joined Group 2 Design in January of 1991 as an intern. Wow, she was working in a real design firm doing real work for real clients! They even had a computer -- a glorious Mac Classic iisi – cue the trumpets and angels!!! Linda’s diligence and work ethic enabled her to quickly advance from copy and delivery girl to a full-fledged graphic designer. This is where she truly learned the ins and outs of the business. Upon graduation from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh with an Associate Degree in Visual Communications in March of 1992 Linda was added to the staff as a designer.
The industry has transformed considerably over the past 17 years. Linda continues to evolve in tandem by continuously educating herself with new computer applications, techniques and design trends. Strong organizational skills and a keen eye for consistency enable her to provide clients with a finished product that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also highly efficient, within budget and on target.
Linda's passion for design is fueled by thoroughly researching each and every project, feeding off of the high energy of others, visiting museums and local art exhibits frequently, recognizing and celebrating design in the simplest to the most intricate of day-to-day sights, looking at magazines (for the pictures of course), playing like a child whenever possible and viewing gritty urbanscapes.
